Some 2018 Equinox drivers became perplexed when using Advanced Parking Assist (APA) and the vehicle would abort the parking attempt. The problem occurs when the APA turns the steering wheel and a shudder occurs. It records a 250-millisecond power steering instability error; the APA system then aborts leaving the driver challenged with maneuvering their vehicle manually into the parking space. General Motors has published a bulletin #18245, which contains the solution. A reprograming of the Power Steering Control Module with SPS will fix the problem and no parts are required. The bulletin also spells out the dealer responsibility and warranty eligibility.
