Vehicle: 2011 Nissan Murano, V6-3.5L (VQ35DE), Automatic Transmission/Transaxle
Mileage: 165,300 miles
Problem: The owner had her Murano towed to the shop because of a no-crank condition and she and the inability to turn the ignition off, even when pressing the push-start button. The malfunction indicator light (MIL) was on.
Case Details: The technician confirmed the no-crank, no-start condition and verified that the ignition remained on. The technician connected his scan tool and found no communication with the PCM, TCM and ABS modules. Despite the lack of communication, the technician was able to retrieve quite a few diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs):
- U101 – Lost communication with TCM
- U0415 – Vehicle Speed Signal
- B2193 – Chain of TCM - BCM
- B2557 – Vehicle Speed
- B2601 – Shift Position (Park Signal)
- B2603 – Shift Position Status
- B260A – Ignition Relay
- B260F – Engine State Signal Lost
- C1729 – Vehicle Speed Signal Error
During his inspection of the total integrated power module, he found that there was no power to TIPM fuses 48, 49, 50 and 51. There was also corrosion at the fusible links on the positive terminal of the battery.
A call to ALLDATA Tech-Assist helped clear up the mystery. The consultant rationalized that because the BCM was not able to sense the proper transmission park signal (DTC B2601) due to lack of communication with TCM, that caused the no-start, no-crank and not being able to shut the ignition off.
Confirmed Repair: The technician replaced the battery fusible link box on the positive battery post and cleared the DTCs. With power to all the modules and the TIPM restored, the engine started and ran normally, the ignition could be turned off and the MIL remained off. Fixed!
