The condition of the affected cars from these storms is indeed trivial, compared to the loss of human life and the damage to whole communities. However, an unfortunate aftermath of these storms could be coming your way. 

According to CARFAX, there were about a half-million water-damaged cars returned to the roadways in 2023. An estimated 100,000 waterlogged vehicles were damaged in the most recent four months of 2024; those numbers do not include the still-climbing damage tally from Helene and Milton.

Vehicle: 2016 Chrysler 200, FWD, L4-2.4L, Automatic Transmission/Transaxle

Mileage: 25,320

Problem: This vehicle was brought to the shop because the malfunction indicator light (MIL) would come on under hard acceleration. An example would be merging onto the highway.

Kia Optima Driver's Window Operates Backwards

Vehicle: 2014 Kia Optima, L4-2.4L, Automatic Transmission/Transaxle

Mileage: 86,989 miles

Problem: The vehicle was brought to the shop to have a bad driver’s front door window regulator replaced. NOTE: A week earlier, one of the techs diagnosed the problem as a bad window regulator because they could hear the motor operating in the door, but the window wouldn’t go up or down. After the work was completed, the window operation was reversed.
